How to Create a Memorable Tagline or Slogan for Your Business

How to Create a Memorable Tagline or Slogan for Your Business

One of the most powerful things you can do to get new followers and customers is to create a memorable tagline or slogan for your business.

A generic or long slogan tends to leave a person confused or simply tuning out…

But a great slogan can inspire engagement from your target audience and keep your business name top of mind for days, weeks and even years to come.

Here are 4 keys to making your business tagline stick with your target customer:

Number 1: Keep it Simple

Remember 3 C’s here:

CLEAR, CLEVER AND CONCISE

Short and sweet is the key to making your business name, mission or motto stand out. And being a little clever with your wording helps too!

When you think of Nike what comes to mind?

Sure you thought of it before I could say it…

Just Do It!

3 short words, inspiring and capturing a brand that’s all about being active.

What about McDonalds?
I’m Lovin’ It…
Again, 3 words, it rolls off your tongue and is easy to remember.

But there’s something else about the taglines of those two powerhouse brands– that leads us to our second Power Tip

Tip Number 2 is- Make Your Audience Feel Something

I’m lovin it makes me feel the emotion of savoring my favorite burger, loving my order. Simple and sweet.

Just Do It is empowering, and motivating. It makes me feel like putting on the right pair of shoes can get me out the door and onto the basketball court… instead of procrastinating my workout.

What about your company? Does your service solve a problem?
Say it in your slogan: Mike’s Home Repair Service. Your One Stop Solution… or “ We’re Here for You.”

This makes me feel like you’ve got me covered, you care or you’re making it easy for me to get my problem taken care of

Same goes for a product.

What do you want me to feel when I’m using it? Happiness, comfort? Excitement?

A slogan I’ve remembered since childhood is a local jeweler who says “Now you’ve got a friend in the Diamond business…” as an adult, guess who got our business on that big ring purchase? Yep, that company. Not only was it memorable, but it made me feel like their team had the knowledge on diamonds and would help me

Imagine you’re using your product for the first time, Explain that feeling in a few words… and there’s the start of a great slogan.

Tip number 3- Compare and Test

Compare your tagline to competitors in your area, or national brands in your industry. Is yours memorable? Is it easy to say? Does it capture your attention?

Then test it out– try it out with your staff, family and friends. Maybe even try 2 ad campaigns with 2 different taglines. See what gets the best results and reactions.

Tip number 4- Stick With It

Once you’ve settled on your slogan Don’t change it! This is what you want to use on all your signs, advertisements and website

When someone hears your slogan your name should immediately come to mind and repetition is key

Studies have shown that people need to see a message at least seven times before it sinks in. That demonstrates that repetition is key to remembering who you are and what you do.

There are so many ways to use your slogan in your marketing. Ask your Marketing Manager today how you can use it to power your brand and bring you more customers.
