Online Ordering for Restaurants – 5 Reasons You Need It | Marketing 360

If you own a restaurant I’m sure you’ve noticed the massive adoption of apps like DoorDash and GrubHub which makes you ponder the question…does my restaurant still need online ordering on my website? The answer is yes! And here are 5 reasons why…

Reason #1 – Delivery apps like DoorDash and GrubHub are great for helping you get found. Think of it like another marketing channel for you. But they take hefty cuts. That being said, paying for and managing your own delivery service is pricey also. So when you think of it that way, it’s probably not that bad. That said, your goal should be to try and get customers to order next time via your website! Sneak in some coupons to order from your website next time for pick-up with a nice discount that’s maybe half what you have to pay to DoorDash or GrubHub!

Reason #2 – A lot of people still prefer to pick-up orders vs delivery. Especially if it’s near work, on their way home, or if they just want to save from the additional delivery charges. etc.. So having online ordering makes it easy! Especially if they can create an account, save their orders and make the checkout process super fast via their phone. That way, it only takes a minute to place their order so it’s ready for pickup. Panara Bread has a pretty good process for this which my wife uses all the time!

Reason #3 – The more orders you have placed through your website the more data you can leverage to improve your marketing and drive more sales. With apps like DoorDash or GrubHub the data you have access to is limited. But with your website’s online ordering system it’s much more powerful! You can see what marketing campaigns are working best, what traffic sources drive the most sales, etc.. Such as if your Facebook campaign is driving more sales than your Instagram campaign, etc. This allows you to spend more money on what’s working and less money on what’s not.

Reason #4 – More of a tip than a reason, but make clear buttons on your website that say “Order for Delivery” and “Order for Pickup”. This way, you can divert the delivery traffic to DoorDash or GrubHub and the Pickup traffic to your online ordering system! This makes it easy for your customers. If you offer your own delivery service, you might still want to give them the option to order via DoorDash or GrubHub if your customers prefer that experience.

Reason #5 – By having your own online ordering system you can more easily manage customer loyalty programs, engagement campaigns like SMS text message blasts on slow days, etc..
